[Class 74 (ii).] For use with yarn changing plating or splicing mechanism a block 2 is furnished with as many vertically slidable trapping elements 3 and co-operating yarn receiving notches as there are yarn guides 1. Each trapper has a bust 9 operable, by the tip of the corresponding guide as it goes out of feeding position, to open the trapper. When, on reverse movement of the guide to an intermediate inoperative position, the trapper is released by spring means, the upper inclined edge 3a traps the yarn against a fixed shoulder. The pivoted guides are held inoperative against the action of springs 10 by cam pieces 11 on a pattern drum. The ribs 13 by acting on the guides cause the corresponding trapper to open and the yarn to be laid in the associated throat d. In a modification, the trapper is opened momentarily. Cutting edges on the trappers or independent yarn cutting means may be used. When the invention is applied to dial rib machines, one or more rib needles, provided with shorter butts than the rest, and caused to clear before reaching the feeders, engage the yarn extending from the trapper to the corresponding guide.
