Abstract
366,733. Model aeroplanes. MEE, F. J., 137A, Greenwich Road, London. Feb. 13, 1931, No. 4561. [Class 4.] The wing of a model aeroplane is made in two halves hinged together so that they can be folded face to face in one direction, movement in the opposite direction being limited by stops when the two halves are at the desired dihedral or other angle. The spars 2 of the wing have hinges 12, and root ribs 3 above the spars have abutting surfaces 4 which maintain the correct dihedral angle of the wings when unfolded. Resilient metal frames 6 threaded on extensions 5 of the hinge pins and bearing on extended ends 9 of the ribs 3 press down the pins 5 when elastic bands 14 are passed under the fuselage and engaged with hooks 15 on the frames 6. The fuselage comprises two longerons 11 connected by cross-pieces and covered with fabric 12. Models comprising a single central stick have the wings held by resilient wire clips, or, as shown in Fig. 5, the hinge pin may extend fore and aft and have depending portions 5b passing through a longitudinal slot 16 in the stick and provided with clamping nuts 17. Tail planes may be similarly hinged.
