Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31485. [Class 6 (i).] A machine for removing dead grass, moss, &c. from grass land &c. comprises a series of star wheels or toothed discs bolted together side by side upon a common shaft mounted in a supplementary frame, means for imparting rotary motion to the shaft from the road wheel axle, and screw mechanism for adjusting its height by raising the supplementary frame. The main frame 1 is mounted on large front wheels 2 and rear castor wheels 3, and may be drawn or propelled by horse or tractor, or manually. The supplementary frame 4 carrying the star wheels 7 is pivoted on the main axle 10 and is adjustably supported by a screw 17 engaging a swivelling nut 18 and provided with a hand-wheel 20, guide bars 21 passing through guides 22. Each disc or wheel 7 has radially projecting V-shaped teeth, a boss and a narrow annular flange projecting from one side to act as a distance piece, and a square hole therethrough to fit on a squared shaft 5. The star wheels are clamped together by three long bolts passing through them. They constitute a toothed roller with the teeth in longitudinal alignment. The shaft 5 is driven rapidly from the axle 10 through chain gearing, an intermediate shaft 6, and a clutch operated by a handle 25.
