Abstract
363,825. Refrigerators. LOVELL, G. and LOVELL, G. D., 10, Marshgate Lane, Stratford, London. Dec. 18, 1930, No. 38201. [Class 29.] A heat-insulating transparent d o u b 1 e - walled panel, particularly intended for the doors and walls of refrigerators or cold storage rooms, comprises a metal frame and two or more glass plates, and the glass plates are provided with metal rims which are soldered to the metal frame. An airtight joint is thus formed which prevents moisture from entering the space between the plates and the deposition of frost on their inner surfaces. In order to attach the metal rim, a glass plate 1 is first sand-blasted on its edge portions 2, 3, 4 and rendered electrically conductive on the roughened parts by silvering or by covering with graphite. A metal coating 5 is then deposited electrolytically on the edge to any desired thickness, and this coating enables the glass plate to be soldered to the metal frame.
