Abstract
363,272. Sewing-machines. UNION SPECIAL-MASCHINENFABRIK GES., 33, Schwabstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. April 25, 1931, No. 12272. Convention date, April 28, 1930. [Class 112.] Needles, vibrating laterally.-A needle-bar and a thread-carrying looper are moved laterally of the line of feed for laying the stitches to ornament the fabric and a loop-retainer is provided for holding the loop back from the looper. The loop retainer is also moved laterally of the line of feed for maintaining its position relative to the looper. Preferably, a common control member such as a pattern drum, regulates the lateral movement of the needlebar, looper and loop retainer. The needle-bar 3 is carried in the gate 4 and is reciprocated in the usual way by the lever 5, eccentric strap 6 and motor shaft 7. The looper 9 co-operates with the needle 8. The looper carrier 10 is pivoted at 11 to a support 12 which is oscillated by an arm 13 cooperating with a cam 14 on the main shaft 7. This gives the needle-avoiding movement to the looper. The looper carrier is oscillated by a link comprising two sections 15, 17, the section 17 being pivoted to the needle lever 5. The links are pivoted to a crank pin 20 carried by a link 21 pivoted at 22 to an arm 23 carried by a yoke. This yoke carries an arm 25 provided with a roller 27 running in a groove in the pattern cam 28. The cam 28 is detachably connected to a supporting disc 29 which is rotated from the main shaft by gears 31, 32, 33. The arm 25 is connected at 34 to a link 35 which in turn is connected to the needle-bar gate 4. By changing the pattern cam, various designs may be produced on the fabric by the changed direction of the stitches. As the arm 23 is raised or lowered it moves the link sections 15, 17 towards or from a straight line so changing the oscillating position of the looper to maintain its position relative to the needle. The loop retainer 36 is mounted on a carrier fixed to a shaft 38 mounted for oscillation and reciprocation in a bearing lug carried on the bed 1 of the machine. The retainer has an arm 40 which co-operates with a cam 41 on the main shaft 7. This oscillates the shaft 38 and moves the retainer laterally of the needle. The shaft 38 is moved endwise bv an arm 42 mounted to oscillate on a support 43 carried by the bed 1. The outer end of the arm 42 has a head 44 straddling a pin carried by a head 46 attached to the outer end of the shaft 38. The head 44 is mounted on a pin which has a sliding engagement with the arm 42. This arm is fixed to an arm 48 carrying a ball stud 49 which is connected by a link 53 to a ball stud 52 operated by the eccentric strap 51 from the main shaft. The yoke of the arm 23 carries an arm 54 having a ball stud connected with the link 53 so that the pattern cam shifts the working position of the strap 51 and the reciprocating position of the retainer 36 to maintain its position relative to the looper.
