Abstract
362,999. Hydraulic transmission of power. WRIGHT, F. H., 1; Golders Green Crescent, and LEWIS, E. W., 25, Sutton Court, Chiswick, both in London. Sept. 17, 1930, No. 27783. [Class 69 (ii).] Variable-speed gearing comprises an epicyclic train controlled by a variable hydraulic gear consisting of a rotary fluid pump and a like engine the capacity of either of which can be varied. Aligned driving and driven shafts 2, 3, Fig. 1, are secured to internal gears 7, 9 forming the end elements of the epicyclic train. Interengaging planets 8 are supported in a cage 10, which is the controlled element and is connected by a sleeve 6 to the rotor 4a of the engine 4. The rotor 5a of the pump 5 is secured to the shaft 2. Each rotor preferably consists of a cylinder eccentrically supported and slotted radially for the reception of three laminated vanes 4c, 5c slotted so as to be guided upon circular ribs 4d, 5d formed on the end walls of the casings. The pump and engine are connected by outward and return passages 12, 12a, Fig. 2, in a freely revoluble connecting casing. The engine 4 is preferably of fixed and the pump 5 of variable capacity. The capacity of the pump is varied by radially displacing the outer cylinder 5b. This is done by turning an eccentric 18 which is connected by a spindle 17, Fig. 1, to a pinion 16 meshing with a helix 15 slidable on a feather on shaft 2. Axial displacement of the helix 15 effected by a lever 19 thus varies the speed of the cage 10 and so varies the speed of the driven shaft 3.
