[Class 83 (iv).] The head of a mandrel for tube rolling-mills is built up of replaceable co-axial solids of revolution, that part which is subjected to the greatest wear being formed of hard metal such as a tungsten carbide alloy. A hard metal annular portion B with convex conical ends, is secured against a carrier plate A mounted on the main mandrel shaft by a nose portion C of steel screwed on to a central rod a<2> integral with the plate A. Tommy holes c<1> facilitate tightening.
