Abstract

For the polymerization of butadiene or a homologue or analogue thereof in presence of at least 10 per cent of an unsaturated acid or its ester such as an ester of acrylic acid, the hydrochloride of diethylaminoethoxyanilide of oleic acid and the hydrochloride of diethylaminoethyloleic acid amide (see Specification 330,272, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]) are used as emulsifying agents. Specification 358,534 also is referred to.ALSO:Butadiene or a homologue or analogue thereof is polymerized by an emulsion process in presence of at least about 10 per cent of an unsaturated substance of the general formula <FORM:0360822/IV/1> in which R<1>, R2, R3 represent hydrogen or alkyl and R<4> hydrogen or a hydrocarbon residue. The diolefine may be mixed with vinyl derivatives of benzene hydrocarbons or other polymerizable substances. In examples butadiene is polymerized with acrylic acid and its methyl ester respectively in emulsion with aqueous hydrochloride of the diethylamino ethoxyanilide of oleic acid (see Specification 330,272, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]) and acetic acid; butadiene and styrene are polymerized with acrylic acid in a similar emulsion; butadiene or isoprene is polymerized with the butyl ester of acrylic acid and trichloracetic acid in a similar emulsion. The coagulum obtained from the products may be vulcanized with the addition of soot. Specification 358,534 also is referred to.ALSO:A polymerization product of a diolefine with at least 10 per cent of an unsaturated substance of the general formula <FORM:0360822/V/1> in which R1, R2, R3 represent hydrogen or alkyl, and R4 hydrogen or a hydrocarbon residue, may be vulcanized with the addition of soot. The examples describe polymerization products from butadiene together with acrylic acid, acrylic acid methyl ester, styrene and acrylic acid, and acrylic acid butyl ester. In the last case isoprene is mentioned as an alternative to butadiene. Specification 358,534 is referred to.
