Abstract

Artificial silk threads obtained by the parallel spinning process, are wound immediately after their passage through a precipitating bath on a winding device of variable diameter so as to produce a cheese which is adapted to be subjected in this form to further treatment by liquids. For this purpose, the diameter of the winding device is reduced after winding so as to form a hollow space between the coil and the device permitting the coil to be slid off the latter without damaging the inner layers of the threads. The thread may be wound in crossed windings to produce a coil cylindrical from end to end without tapered end portions. After removal from the winding device, the cheese may be mounted on another spool and then treated with washing, desulphurizing, bleaching, or other liquids, or it may be treated with liquids while unsupported.
