Abstract
357,790. Vehicle wheels. BUDD WHEEL CO., 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Reed, G. B. ; 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) Sept. 29, 1930, No. 29161. [Class 144 (i).] In a detachable wheel of the type comprising two metal stampings 10, 11 forming tubular spokes, the inner ends of the spokes are closed by one or more plate members (constituting the wheel hub) each having an inwardly-projecting radial flange for attachment to a permanent hub, the construction permitting an artillery wheel to be fitted on an ordinary disc-wheel mounting. In the form shown in Fig. J, the one-piece stamping 20 is formed with spaced flanges welded to the sides 12, 13 of the wheel-centre and with a flange 21 through which the attachment-bolts 27 are passed. The flange 21 is formed with seating portions 24. 25 to engage the flange 26 of the permanent hub. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the wheel-hub is formed from two flanged stampings 32, 33 welded together and to the wheel-centre. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the hub 20 is formed with an outer cylindrical surface which is welded to the inturned edges 12, 13 of the wheel parts 10, 11. In all the forms shown, the outer ends of the spokes are closed by thimbles 16 which are welded to the well-base of the rim.
