Abstract

357,638. Vehicle suspension systems. WOODHEAD, G. A., The Grange, Old Park Road, Roundhay, and SANDERS, T. H., 77, Cowper Street, both in Leeds. June 27, 1930, No. 19537. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii).] In systems adapted to increase the resistance to lateral tilting, the opposite ends of the laminated springs a are connected by a transverse member consisting of a multiplate spring b, or of one or more pairs of connected cantilever springs flexible in a vertical direction and secured at each end to some of the leaves of the main springs. In some cases the transverse member may consist of a rigid bar mounted at each end in trunnion blocks which are free to pivot about longitudinal axes between and against the action of the plates of the main springs. In one form the invention is applied to a construction disclosed in Specification 314,689, [Class 108 (iii), Springs &c.]. In this case trunnion blocks c, firmly secured to the springs a and housing the ends of the spring b, are non-rotatable about a longitudinal axis and are formed with side flanges to take the thrust. In a modification, the two cantilever springs b<1>, Fig. 4, are interconnected by a tie bolt f having spherical ends and a distancepiece f<1>. In a further modification, the four cantilever springs b<1>, Fig. 9, are connected together in pairs and are connected to the springs a by means of boxes g which are retained in position by links h secured to the inner spring clips.
