Abstract

357,637. Reducing resistance to propulsion of ships. STAUNTON, P. M., Aram Lodge, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, Ireland. June 27, 1930, No. 19530. [Classes 113 (i) and 113 (ii).] For reducing resistance to propulsion the hull or forward part of the hull of a ship is provided with surfaces of rasp tooth formation having spear head cutting portions and hollows in the rear thereof. The hull 4 has plates attached thereto the surface of which is made up of sloping portions 2 and hollows 3 the teeth 1 facing in a forward direction. Instead of being in attached plates this surface may be formed in the main plating. Other parts of the ship may similarly be treated, for example the front parts 5 of the funnels.
