Abstract

357,400. Suspending cables. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd. and ASTLEY, J. W., Prescot, Lancashire. Oct. 22, 1930, No. 31717. [Class 36.] In order to damp vibrations at the point of support of an overhead cable, a cable 1 is provided with a close-coiled helical spring 2 which is threaded over the cable 1 at the point of support and clamped between members 4, 5. Inverted U-pieces 6 pass over the member 5 and are screwed into the member 4, clamping nuts 7 on the free ends of the pieces 6 being adapted to tighten the clamp. Metal straps 8, bolted to an insulator fitting 9, carry the clamp from bearing lugs 10. In a modified construction, the helical spring is close-coiled at the clamp and of pitch which in. creases gradually to the free ends. The construction may be applied to terminal supports, the spring extending on one side only.
