Abstract

356,112. Manoeuvre signalling devices for motor vehicles. DEBLIEUX, J., of Opelousas Stave Co., Opelousas, St. Landry, Louisiana, U.S.A. May 23, 1930, No. 1592]. [Class 118 (ii).] A manoeuvre signalling device for motor vehicles comprises an upper arm section 4 in the form of a flat tubular member rigidly secured through the sleeve 8 and a pin to the rotatable shaft 7, and a fore-arm section 5 with hand 6 in the form of a flat tubular member fixed to the shaft 10 rotatably mounted in the upper arm member 4. A sleeve 14 is pinned to the shaft 10 and has rigidly secured thereto two arms 15, 16, the one 15 being connected by a spring-link connection 24a, 25, slack when the members 4, 5 are vertical, to an eye 24 on the member 23, and the other 16 being connected by a spring 17 to the bracket 18. The member 23 extends outwardly from a sleeve 22 clamped on a rotatable shaft 19 having the member 20 extending from one end thereof to engage with a cam 27 rigidly secured to the shaft 7. The members 4, 5 are provided with stops 11, 12, 13 to limit their relative rotations. Rotation of shaft 7 to a first signalling position rotates the member 4 and the member 5 relative to the member 4, the spring 17 overcoming the spring-link connection 24a, 25. Further rotation of the shaft to a second signalling position rotates the member 4 to a horizontal position and causes the cam 27 to rotate the member 20, shaft 19 and member 23 clockwise to cause the spring- link connection 24a, 25 to overcome the spring 17 and rotate the member 5 into horizontal alignment with the member 4. Further rotation of the shaft 7 to a third signalling position rotates the member 4 to a position below the horizontal, the cam 27 still engaging the member 20 and the member 5 remaining in alignment with the member 4. The shaft 7 is rotated to the different signalling positions through the lever and bell crank system shown in Fig. 1, the lever 28 being fixed to the shaft 7 and the system being operated by hand from the handle 40, a spring-pressed locking dog 41 engaging notches 39 corresponding to the different signalling positions.
