Abstract

355,604. Plywood. NEWTEX SAFETY GLASS CO., Ltd., Agnes Road, Acton, London, and DOUGAN, W. C., 5, Devonshire Road, Birkenhead. Nov. 20, 1930, No. 34979. [Class 145 (ii).] Multi-ply wood is made by assembling the laminµ in a bath containing a resin made from glycerine and phthalic anhydride in the A or initial stage of manufacture. A suitable bath consists of a solution of the resin in ethyl lactate, butyl lactate and methylene chloride preferably maintained at a temperature of 18‹ C. After removal of the assembly from the bath, surplus solution is removed from the outer faces by wiping and from between the laminµ by gentle pressure. A pressure of 300 lbs. per square inch at a temperature of 90-130‹ C. is then applied for 40 minutes to convert the resin into the B or C stage.
