[Class 64 (ii).] Steam is admitted to the radiators of a central heating system at predetermined short intervals, which may be varied by thermostatic or windactuated devices, the steam admission means being operated electrically through circuits controlled by rotatable clock-driven means. One form of control comprises a clock-driven drum 1, Fig. 1, having insulating cam segments 6 on its conducting surface, and a spring contact arm 9 secured to a fixed post 10. The duration of the contacts may be varied by axial displacement of the drum, which may be effected by a hand-wheel 8 of a screw and nut mechanism, or from an anemometer or other wind-sensitive device. Another form of control comprises an insulated clock-driven drum 1, Fig. 2, with grooved conducting segments 6 engageable by a pivoted contact arm 9, the end of the arm being held in any one groove while making contact. When off the segments the arm is free to be moved to a position determined by a thermal element 13. A number of radiators in various rooms, or groups of radiators, may be controlled centrally by electric circuits, in such a manner that if all the rooms are below a desired temperature the clock control is over-ridden and steam is supplied, whereas if one or a few rooms only are cold, the clock control remains operative.
