Abstract
353,035. Paper-making machines. DARBY, J. K., Sandusky, Ohio, U.S.A. March 10, 1930, No. 7795. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1929. [Class 96.] In a paper-making machine of the Fourdrinier type in which the forming wire is applied by providing a removable structure for this purpose, stringing the wire laterally of this structure and applying the loop by moving the structure, the structure is supported during this movement by means outside the loop and beneath the lower run. To secure the necessary slack either the table structure or the couch roll structure is movable diagonally to reduce the distance between them. The guiding rails are laid below the lower run of the wire loon and where the wire lies over them are cut away to accommodate the wire, a light and thin pad rail being laid over the wire to protect it. The machine comprises a table structure 5, 6, 7, Fig: 2, and a couch roll structure 22 which may be of the cantilever type. To obtain the necessary shortening of the distance between the couch roll and the breast roll 36, to allow a new wire to be strung, one part, as shown the table structure, is moved into the aisle on diagonal supporting rails 50 with extensions in the aisle. The other part may remain stationary or may be moved outwards in a perpendicular direction. The table may be moved manually or by cords 72, Fig. 4, operated from a suitably driven shaft. The rails 50 are provided with recesses 80 to receive the wire 30 and pad rails 81 are laid over the lower run of the wire in the recesses before the structure is moved. The structure may be normally supported on the main sills 51, cam means being provided to lift the rollers 55 from the rails 50 and to lower them on to the rails for movement. The new wire may be strung in the normal position of the machine, the structure having been moved out, and the structure then moved back into the loop, or the wire may be strung in the aisle and the structure moved out into the loop and finally moved back with the new wire adjusted on it. In this latter case the recesses and pad rails are provided in the rail extensions 52 in the aisle, which rail extensions may be offset from the rails 50, the rails 50 and the extensions 52 carrying the rollers on opposite sides of the structure. The breast roll housing part 9 may take the form of a screw jack to adjust the forming elevation of the wire. The save-all trays and trough below the wire may be suspended from opposite ends of the frame 6 so as to move with the frame, a central adjustable screw support being provided during normal operation.
