Abstract

Disazo dyes, soluble copper compounds of.-Disazo dyestuffs from a tetrazotized 4 : 41-diaminodiphenyl containing an alkoxy group in o-position to each amino group coupled with J. acid or a derivative thereof (1 mol.) and with a naphthol disulphonic acid or nuclear substituted alkoxy or halogen derivative thereof (1 mol.) are treated with copper or an agent yeilding copper at elevated temperature until the o-alkyloxy groups are split up. The end-point is determined when the shade no longer changes. The products dye cotton, silk, and viscose blue. In examples (1) the dyestuff 1-naphthol-3 : 6-disulpho acid \sM dianisidine --> N-(p-methoxyphenyl)-J acid is autoclaved with aqueous copper sulphate, (2) the dyestuff 8-ethoxy-1-naphthol-3 : 6-disulpho acid \sM dianisidine --> N-phenyl-J acid is refluxed with aqueous copper sulphate.
