Abstract
352,144. Actuation of switches. CHINNERY, F. L., Griffin Lane, Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia. May 5, 1930, No. 13776. [Class 38 (v).] A switch for breaking the ignition circuit of an internalcombustion engine on the failure of the lubricating oil pressure, comprises a housing 1 screwed to a base 2 which has a chamber 3 in communication with the oil pressure system. A flexible diaphragm 12 prevents oil from passing into the housing 1. When the engine is started, the oil pressure builds up and forces up the diaphragm 12 thus moving the plunger 5 and stem 6 against the action of a spring 11 to close the contacts 16, 18 in the ignition circuit. The plunger 5 fits tightly in the housing 1 and a valve 10 is provided on the stem 6 so that if the diaphragm breaks the oil does not pass into the housing 1.
