Abstract
352,098. Two-way terminal equipment. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. and GROVE, S. H., Columbia House, Aldwych, London. April 9, 1930, No. 11307. [Class 40 (iv).] In a submarine cable system the terminal relays are controlled by energy transmitted by radio. The system illustrated has a normal speech bias from E-W and when speech passes in this direction the relay S3 is operated to short the transmitter T1. When speech originates at W it passes through amplifier A1 and delay network D whilst detector amplifier DA2 operates S1 to change over the outgoing leads and controls the sending of a signal current via radio transmitter RT to the receiver RR. This radio signal, travelling faster than the cable signals, operates S2 before the speech currents arrive, connecting the cable to receiver R2 via amplifier A4. The switching at intermediate repeater stations may be similarly operated.
