Abstract
351,773. Pig traps. SCOTTISH SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS, 19, Melville Street, Edinburgh, and BARRETT, J. A. S., Redbraes, Peebles. July 22, 1930, No. 22061. [Class 81 (ii).] In a pig trap of the type comprising a raised stand-way having a removable floor and sloping sides, the end members a<1>, a<2> of angle section are arranged to form a rail a for the sliding floor, and the stand-way has end frames c<2>, c<3> of angle section as shown in Fig. 3. The upper ends of the arms of the end frames are connected by a longitudinal bar d, the back frame being covered with sheet metal e. In the front frame is pivotally suspended a door f forming the other side, and covered with sheet metal f on its inner face. The lower edge of the door engages pivoted catches g at each end of the trap, which are operated by a rod h, Fig. 2, having trip arms h<1>, adapted to engage the rear ends g<1> of the catches, and provided with an operating handle h<2>. A handle f<2> is secured to the door. The sliding floor runs on rollers n and is operated through link arms o, Fig. 2, by a lever m which is carried by a cranked bracket k fixed at the centre of the rear side of the stand. Below the sliding floor is an inclined platform p. One end of the stand-way is closed by a bar i, and at the other end a ramp q is provided. In operation, the animal is driven up on to the stand-way, the floor and side being in position. The lever m is pulled to withdraw the floor, the animal becoming wedged between the sloping sides. After killing by the humane pistol, the swinging door is released by the catch lever h<2> and is opened by the weight of the body, which falls on to the platform p and slides to the ground. The width of the stand-way may be adjustable, for example by alteration of the catch g holding the swinging door, or alternatively the stand-way may be made to the largest size required, and adjusted by fitting a "blister" or false side over the fixed side.
