[Class 38 (v).] In a switching device for signalling systems for motor vehicles of the general kind described in Specification 350,604, the conductors are led up through the centre 3 of the steering column and connected to arcuate contacts 15, 16, on a member 12, and the contacts 47 of the detachable switch unit 34 are provided with spring-plunger or other resilient terminal portions 52 adapted permanently to engage the contacts 15, 16 when the switch unit is in place. The switch unit comprises movable contacts 63 adapted to be selectively moved into engagement with the contacts 47 by the handle 41 to close various lighting circuits connected to the contacts 15, 16 and the switch unit may also be depressed as a whole against the action of a spring 59 to bring a member 36 into engagement with a screw-head 31 to complete the horn circuit. The battery is connected by a lead 28 to a plate 27 and the current then proceeds through the spring 59 to the member 36 and thence not only to the contact 31, when the switch unit is depressed, but also to the movable contact member 63 and the contacts 47 when the handle 41 is actuated. The member 12 is mounted on a lever 6 which may actuate other lights and the switch unit 34 is mounted in a casing 9 connected to a lever 4 controlling the gas, relative rotation between the members 12, 34 being allowable owing to the arcuate contacts 15, 16.
