[Class 100 (i).] Sheet-registering devices.-A side registering device for printing-machines, which is especially applicable to register sheets accurately just before they are seized by grippers 26 on the impression cylinder 25, Fig. 1, of an offset printing- machine, is constructed of two independently reciprocating supports 14, 15, Fig. 3, which are actuated from adjustable cams 34, 341 on a common power shaft 32 which drives the printing-machine. The supports 14,15 are guided in bushings 55, 55<1> in side frames 11, 12 and move over a crossbar 13. The cams 34, 34<1> actuate spring-pressed levers 37, 37<1>, connected to bell cranks 40, 401, which are connected by links 44, 441 to sockets 45, 45<1> secured adjustably to the supports 14, 15. To obtain accurate adjustment of the sockets so as to set the device accurately for sheets of various widths, auxiliary sockets 47, 471 are secured to the supports and when these are secured so as to secure a rough adjustment, a fine adjustment is obtained by a micrometer screw 49 or 491 which adjusts the sockets 45, 45<1> relatively to the auxiliary sockets, the sockets 45, 45<1> being fixed in position after the fine adjustment. The supports 14, 15 carry sheet-engaging members in the form of rollers 21, 20, of which the roller 21 is mounted in a spring-pressed slide 16 which can yield relatively to a fixed slide 50 screwed to the support 14. Sheet guides 22, 23 are secured near the rollers 21, 20. The cams 34, 34<1> are set so as to bring the rollers 21, 20 into contact with the sheet on the table 52 before it reaches the cylinder, and to release it immediately after it reaches the cylinder and the grippers close on it, so that even if the sheets are not exactly uniform size, the registration will not be adversely affected thereby. The cams 34, 341 are set so that the yielding roller 20 acts in advance of the rigidly mounted roller 21. The rollers 20, 21 can be reversed in position so that the yielding roller will act from either the left or right side.
