Abstract
351,304. Making turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Delles. W. J. ; 132, Rosa Road, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Aug. 12, 1930, No. 24146. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1929. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii).] Casting processes.-Relates to the casting together in spaced relation to each other of a series of members having thin edges such as turbine blades. The blades 8 are cut to length from bars having, as shown in Fig. 1, a thickened part 6 at the discharge edge. They are then cut to the shape shown in Fig. 2, so as to leave a sharp discharge edge 5, lugs 10, and holes 11, and are assembled between spacing plates 12 to which they are welded at 13. The structure is placed in a mould and metal is cast around the parts outside the spacers 12 in order to form the diaphragm rims which are then machined.
