Abstract

349,443. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO., Central Falls, Rhode Island, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Lawson, R. H. ; Pawtucket, Rhode Island, U.S.A.) Jan. 25, 1930, No. 2647. Convention date, March 5, 1929. [Class 74 (ii).] Relates to the production of plated and reverse plated effects in stockings &c. from several yarns. Two yarn feeds are provided. By feeding, say a black and a white yarn in plating relation at the main feed and a black and a red varn at the auxililiary feed, the black yarn may be used as the plain plating varn at both feeds and either or both body yarns may be used for reverse plating. The main and plating yarns pass through eyes in guides 3, 6 situated diametrically opposite each other. At each feed station there are cams pivoted at 47 to brackets 46. These cams (11 .. 15, Fig. 5), act on the butts 19 .. 23 of a corresponding set of sinkers whereby the edges 16 are positioned in the path of the descending needles so that reversal takes place. The cams 11 .. 15 are held away from the sinkers by springs and are selectively moved forward by means of levers, such as 26, 29 engaging pins such as 31 on the corresponding cams. The unselected sinkers are moved in subsequently by a fixed cam which acts on butts 25 to produce normal plating. The levers are pivoted at 36 and provided with noses 37 bearing against corresponding risers on cam drums 38, which are racked round at intervals when changes in the knitted pattern are called for. Specifications 20101/09, 256,612, 286,727, and 288,994, [all in Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], are referred to.
