349,355. Ventilating systems and apparatus. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. July 11, 1930, No. 21013. Convention date, July 19, 1929. [Class 137.] A plant for washing and controlling the humidity and temperature of air in enclosed spaces uses the air to be conditioned as refrigerating medium in an air refrigerating machine when cold air is required in summer. Air is drawn from a room 1 mixed with fresh air to a regulable extent at 4 and normally is sprayed at 5 with water brought to a predetermined temperature at 6; any water entrained is separated at 8 and the air is drawn by a fan 10 through a heater 9 into the room. When cold air is required, the flap 27 is closed and air passes through the air fan compressor 12 and after removal of heat of compression by a cold water spray 5, the air expands through a turbine 13 and returns to the room. Apparatus for the occasional cooling of air comprising a refrigerator with a steam compresser, a condenser, and an evaporator using a medium such as ammonia or carbon dioxide is also described.
