Abstract

349,139. Pap e r for wrapping and toilet purposes, ROBINSON & SONS, Ltd., Wheat Bridge Mills, and ROBINSON, V. O., Chander Hill, both in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Feb. 28, 1930, No. 6731. [Class 96]. Paper like material suitable for toilet purposes and for wrapping and packing pastry comprises compressed cellulose wadding carried by a tougher backing of comparatively non-absorbent material such as waterproof paper to which it is secured by adhesive. The surface layer which consists of cotton wadding is more coherent, being composed of longer fibres, and by compressing a pattern each long fibre is secured at at least two separate places so that the product will withstand considerable rubbing ever. when moistened without disintegrating and breaking away. In apparatus for manufacture of this material cellulose tissues 1, Fig. 1, are superposed with a surface cotton wadding layer 5 on a sheet of paper 6 which is coated with adhesive at 6<1> and the combined sheets passed between embossing rollers 7 which emboss a pattern such as is shown in Fig. 2, after which the material passes to a slitter 8 and is wound at 9.
