348,408. Boxes or cartons for cigarettes &c. MACDONALD, A. G., 3810, St. Antoine Street, Montreal, Canada. May 24, 1930, No. 16079. [Class 18.] A box or carton for cigarettes, playing cards, or other articles, and made of paper or.other material, has a pair of parallel slits 10, Fig. 2, across at least a portion of the bottom end wall 6 and along a portion of the adjoining wall 11 with the material between the slits lying in the normal planes of the said adjoining walls, but on displacing inwards the material between the slits, as in Fig. 2, the contents of the box are partially ejected at the top end. Transverse score lines 12 may join the slits 10 which latter may extend across the bottom 6 of the box and be continued up two opposite adjoining walls 11 so that the material between the slits may be pressed in as in Fig. 6. A large container may have a pair of such ejecting devices in its lower end..The entire bottom, 13, Fig. 8, of the box can be displaceable inwards and it may press upon a U -frame 18 or arms which may be.integral with or attached to the bottom so that the bevelled ends 19 of the arms or frame will act on the closure flap 7 and force it open. A box can be used to display packets of cigarettes &c. and the inwardly displaceable material 26, Fig. 13, may be slit into strips so that the packets can be raised individually. The material 26 may be formed into a number of steps arranged in stair fashion and a stepped, supporting block can be inserted underneath the steps.
