Abstract

<PICT:0347568/III/1> Surface steam condensers comprise a tube nest with headers at each end, one of the headers having outlet connections 25 in its lower part and a longitudinally extending dam structure 26 or 27 interposed between the outlet connection and the tube nest extending upwards adjacent the outer boundary of the tube nest and terminating near its top, thus keeping the water tubes flooded. The outlet header may have one outlet and one dam structure, or it may be divided by a partition 24 into two compartments, each of which has an outlet 25 and a longitudinally extending dam 26 or 27. Vents 32 are provided at the highest points of the header.
