Abstract
347,447. Road vehicle collision guards; strip and thin plate springs. DEVEAUX, E., Boen-sur-Lignon, Loire, France. April 2, 1930, No. 10487. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (iii):] A support for fenders or bumpers for vehicles comprises a series of blade springs arranged in intersecting planes preferably so as to lie substantially on the surface of an imaginary body of revolution, for example a sphere or an ellipsoid, the blade springs alone absorbing small shocks, additional resilient buffers being provided for violent shocks. In one form blade springs a, a<1>, a<11> .. , Fig. 1, are fixed by central bolts f to dishshaped members b, b<1> secured by bolts h to the chassis and bumper, rotation of the blade springs being prevented by bolts c, c<1>, c<11> ... Within each member b, b<1> is secured a hemispherical buffer d, d<1>. In a modification the ends of the blade springs are pointed and secured to the members b, b<1> by screws or rivets while the bolts c are screwed through an inner member e, Fig. 7, and, being mutually inclined, are utilized to hold in position the buffers d, d<1>, which in this case are of truncated conical form. Closely or openly superposed blade springs may be employed and the rubber buffers may be replaced by helical springs.
