[Class 28 (i).] A coin - freed machine for delivering articles, such as foodstuffs, is provided with electrical heaters to heat the articles and to heat water to moisten them. As shown in the Figure, the machine comprises an insulated chamber 2 with a front window 7 consisting of several superimposed panes with or without air spaces. Boxes 11 containing sausages rest on drawers 8 adapted to be withdrawn on the insertion of coins in slots 10. The sausages are heated by a vertical series of lamps at the rear of a central chamber 15 and are maintained moist by steam formed by electrically heating water in a tank 14. The steam is led up through the chamber 15 by pipes 22 perforated on the sides facing open ends of the boxes. One or more plates 16, with or without holes, divide the chamber 15 to prevent the upper parts thereof getting too hot. Electric heating units may be provided in the drawers 8 to maintain the bottom articles at the requisite temperature. Thermostats, connected to some or all of the heaters, cut off the current when suitable temperatures have been attained. The current to the machine is cut off when a drawer 8 is opened and when the machine becomes empty. The tank 14 is connected to a tank 23 provided with a pipe 24 communicating with the chamber 15 by a recess 25 so that condensed steam flows into the tank 23. Electric heating units may be provided at any point where it is desired to avoid condensation of steam. In a modification the drawers 8 contain wire resistances which are energized when a coin is inserted and de-energized by a time relay, a coloured lamp being switched off to indicate when the heating is finished. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises holes in the top and bottom of the boxes through which hot air or steam may be passed and asbestos curtains, connected to weights 13, which are pulled down when the articles are withdrawn to gradually shut off a portion of the chamber 15 and reduce the consumption of electricity. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
