Abstract

346,985. Packeting powdered materials ; automatic-feed weighers. MIDDELBOE, K., 33, Vestergade, Copenhagen. April 7, 1930, No. 11057. [Class 143.] A machine for filling valve bags with a definite weight of pulverous material comprises a filling tank rotatable about a vertical axis, and a number of filling spouts extending from the lower part of the filling tank and each adapted to serve as a carrier and as a feeding device for a valve bag, and each provided with an individual weighing mechanism supported by suitable means and rotating with and at the same speed as the tank, for weighing the contents of the valve bag and provided with a cut-off mechanism controlled by the weighing mechanism for regulating the feed of material to the valve bag. The rotating filling tank 1 is supplied with pulverous material 12 by way of a pipe 6, the pulverous material being maintained in a free-flowing condition by means of stirrers 9 and by the action of compressed air forced through a central pipe 10<11> and through orifices in a shield 11<1>. The base of the tank carries discharge pipes 13<1> each of which communicates, by way of a feed. slide 32, with a filling spout 13<111> movable in a vertical direction relative to the discharge pipe 13<1>. The filling spout is supported from a scale beam 15 by means of a rod 17 and lever 20, the scale beam being carried by a bracket 16 projecting from the tank. In using the machine, an operator attaches an empty valve bag to each filling spout 13<111> as it moves past him. As the bag passes a fixed rail 43, the rail depresses a lever 35 carried by the rotating tank, and the lever operating through a cord 34 opens the feed slide 32 to admit the material to the bag. When sufficient material has entered the bag, the rod 17 descends and a projection 42 releases a catch lever 40 and resilient pawl 38, thereby permitting the feed slide 32 to close under the. action of a'spring 33. A stationary rail 28 then raises a lever 22 and liberates the spoutcarrying lever 20 from the restraint of a pin 21. The weight of the bag swings the spout about the pivot 19 (the upper portion 13<11> of the spout being divided or resiliently jointed to permit of this movement) and the filled bag slides off the spout, for instance to a conveyer belt. A lug 18 carried on the rod 17 rests against the bag to maintain it on the filling spout until the release of the bag takes place. The lower ends of the spouts may be bent so as to point in. the direction of movement thereby facilitating the attachment of the bags. The outlets from the tank may be arranged so that their size is automatically reduced to give a dribble feed for the last stage of the filling. Dust is removed through. suction orifices 30 leading to a suction tube 44.
