345,067. Gas purifying materials. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd., Carlisle Place, London.-(Assignees of Fulweiler, W. H. and Cleveland, T. K.; Broad Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) Feb. 27,1930, No. 6552. Convention date, May 17, 1929. [Class 55 (ii).] In processes for removing sulphur from gases, the latter are passed over heated zinc oxide with or without a promoter to decompose organic sulphur compounds such as carbon bisulphide, mercaptans or thiophene, to form hydrogen sulphide which is removed by ordinary methods. Hydrogen sulphide initially in the gases may be removed before this treatment. Undecomposed organic sulphur compounds are absorbed by sulphuric acid. The zinc oxide may be precipitated on pumice or on magnesium sulphate. Chromium, vanadium, cerium may be used as promoters. Specification 305,027, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], is referred to.
