344,210. Vacuum cleaners ; air filters. ELECTROLUX Ltd., 153, Regent Street, London.-(Assignees of Inventia Patent- Verwertungs-Ges.; 10, Herrenacker, Schaffhausen, Switzerland.) Feb. 27, 1930, No. 6515. Convention date, March 2, 1929. [Classes 8 (i) and 8 (ii).] A vacuum cleaner filter comprises two or more fabric filter layers 21, 22 mounted on a frame adjacent and out of contact, in addition to the dust-bag &c. 11. The hems of the filter cloths are retained by wire &c. in a groove 25 of the frame. The front wall of the frame has tongues 28 stamped out leaving apertures and holding wadding &c. between the fabric filters. The rear filter cloth 21 rests against a wire gauze 31 which may be soldered to the end cap. A modified filter comprises a pair of fabric sheets held apart by a coiled ribbon spring which holds wadding &c. and presses the fabric against the casing. In further modifications, (1) the end cap is formed in parts screwed together and gripping the fabric edges at the joins ; (2) the frame is formed as a split ring with peripheral grooves to receive wires &c. holding the fabric ; (3) the filter may be inserted and removed through an arcuate slot of about 120‹, closed by a hinged cover, the frame being resilient, or of about 180‹, the cover being easily bent to clear the runners 19.
