H.; 465, Calle Defensa, Buenos Aires.) Nov. 29, 1929, No. 36661. [Class 57]. A remote control system for altering the setting of a governor where it is desired to run a prime mover at any of several predetermined speeds for each of which there is a corresponding governor setting. A centrifugal governor 1 driven from the prime mover is loaded by a spring 6 and operates a pilot valve 12 of a power cylinder 11. The point of application of the spring 6 on the lever 5 is varied by rotating the quadrant 18 to which the spring box is connected. A power piston 20 is biased by a spring 21 and supplied with liquid through an inlet valve 22 actuated by a solenoid 23 and the pressure in the cylinder is relieved by an exhaust valve 24 also operated by a solenoid 25. The plunger rod 27 is geared to the quadrant 18 and also to a quadrant 28 attached to a control drum 26 carrying a number of contact strips a .. e, see Fig. 2. A master control switch 30 has contacts 1 .. 4, which, when turned in one direction energizes the solenoids 23 and 29 to lift the piston 20 and when turned in the other direction to energize solenoids 25 and 29 to open the exhaust valve 24 and lower the piston. The solenoid 29 operates to lift a brake on the drum 26. The solenoids are energized a length of time corresponding to the length of contact between the strips on the drum 26 and the contact on switch 30. Alternatively the governor setting means may be operated from one of two oppositely rotating shafts driven from the prime mover, clutches operated in a similar way to the valves 24 and 25 being employed. The Provisional Specification states that in a further modification a reversible electric motor similarly controlled may be used, provided with an electric clutch co-operating with the brake coils 29.
