Abstract

342,933. Scavengers' carts. POPE, G. W., 73, Killyon Road, Clapham, London. March 11, 1930, No. 7820. [Classes 108 (i) and 108 (ii).] The charging orifice of a scavenger's cart is provided with a rotary bladed member which constantly interposes a blade between the contents of the cart and the atmosphere to prevent escape of refuse and which is driven by means of gearing from the road wheels. As shown, a receptable 8 is mounted in a wheeled cradle 2, 4 and is provided at its front part with a hopper 8c in which is mounted a three-bladed member 11 which is rotatable by gearing from the road wheels. The front part 8a and the top 8j may be in the form of hinged doors adapted to be fastened as desired. In a modification an inner receptacle 16 provided with hinged flaps 16 a, Fig. 3, may be provided, the flaps being closed before removal of the filled receptacle 16. Springs, arrangement of.-The road wheels 3 are as shown, mounted on steel axles 3a carried by brackets 3b pivoted to the cradle 2, 4, the bracket being provided with a depending arm 3c resiliently constrained by rubber buffers 5.
