[Class 146 (i).] A clip for holding a newspaper or other document by engaging over the fold thereof comprises a sheath a provided with a longitudinal slot b and a core c extending longitudinally within the sheath and attached thereto at or near one end by a pin, ring, or cord passing through the core and holes in the sheath. In one form, shown in the Figure, the core c is formed integrally with a cylindrical part d which is pressed into the sheath a and has a knob d<1> abutting against the end of the sheath. A spring member e presses the core c away from the slot b and is formed with a collar e<1> which is inserted between the sheath and the part d by slightly expanding the sheath. The parts a, d, e<1> are secured together either by riveting or by means of a hanging-ring f which passes therethrough. The insertion of the parts d, e<1> into the end of the sheath causes the slot b to be of greater width near the knob d<1>, and it is flared at the opposite end to facilitate insertion of the newspaper. In a modification, the core c is attached loosely to one end of the sheath by a loop of string, and the slot b is made narrower in width than the diameter of the core c to prevent the core slipping through the slot. The Provisional Specification describes a construction in which the core is integral with the sheath.
