Abstract
The liquor which has been used for purifying cellulose by the process of Specification 318,868, or reduced pressure, while vapours of nitric acid, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], is treated with an acid or acid salt such as sulphuric acid or sodium bisulphite and formic acid is distilled off. Preferably concentrated lye is used. Sodium sulphate is recovered from the residue by lixiviation before or after calcination.ALSO:Formic acid is obtained from the liquor which has been used for purifying cellulose by the process of Specification 318,868, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], by adding an acid or acid salt such as sulphuric acid or sodium bisulphate, and distilling. Preferably concentrated lye is used. Sodium sulphate is recovered from the residue by lixiviation before or after calcination.
