Abstract
341,150. Sieves. HERMANN, R., 33, Zwickauer Strasse, Dresden, Germany. Oct. 28, 1929, No. 32688. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1928. [Class 117.] In the construction of sieves of the kind comprising longitudinal bars a, Fig. 2, and crossbars c, the spacing between the bars a is determined by pressing out the metal thereof laterally either before or during the attachment of the bars c, by causing the metal of the bars c to flow between the bars a or by providing the bars of one set with teeth adapted to bite into the other bars. As shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4, the longitudinal.bars a are held at the required spacing during the process by a comb b and the cross-bars c are forced into them by a die e causing the metal to swell sidewise as shown at d to act as the permanent spacing means. The sides of the grooves in the bars a are then upset as shown in Fig. 3 to retain the crossbars in place. Alternatively the grooves may be formed by a preliminary pressing operation. In a modification, Fig. 7, the cross-bars c are formed of softer metal and caused, in the pressing operation, to flow between the bars a at g. According to a further modification, Fig. 9, the bars of one set are formed with teeth h &c. adapted to bite into the other bars.
