Abstract

An automatic fluid-actuated drive-reversing gear for dye-jigs is provided with mechanism which ensures that the fabric to be dyed is moved through the dye vat at constant speed. In unwinding fabric from the left hand beam 2 on to the right hand beam 2, the right hand beam 2 is driven at a diminishing speed by means of cones 62, 621 on a main driving shaft 61, a belt 63, and cones 64, 641 on a shaft 65, the shaft 65 being operatively connected to the drum shaft 9 which rotates the beams 2. The cones are slidable on their shafts under the control of levers 83, 831 which close up the cones 62, 621 and open out the cones 64, 641 to reduce the speed of the shaft 65. At their upper ends, the levers 83, 831 are connected to a left and right hand threaded shaft 81 adapted to effect the movement of the cones. Toothed wheels 69, 691 on the shaft 9 drive a shaft 71 through ratchet gearing which ensures that the shaft always rotates in the same direction, and the shaft 71, through worm and bevel gearing, rotates a vertical shaft 78 carrying a bevel gear 79, the gear being <PICT:0340431/IV/1> slidable thereon by a lever 85 which in the position shown meshes the gear with a bevel gear 80 on the threaded shaft 81, the rotation of the drum shaft 9 thus varying the speed at which the shaft 65 is rotated. A link 94 connects the lever 85 to a lever 96 adapted to be rocked when a piston 18 in a cylinder 17 is displaced consequent upon the emptying of the beam from which the fabric is being unwound, the rocking of the lever 96 withdrawing the gear 79 and bringing a similar gear 86 into mesh with the gear 80 to reset the cones. The gear 86 is driven rapidly from the main shaft 61. The movement of the lever 85 to displace the gear 79 takes place against the action of a spring 91 but the lever is kept displaced by a lever 100 carrying a roll 101 which engages behind a projection 102 on the link 94. As the cones 64, 641 are reset in the position shown, a rod 104 secured at one end to the lever 83 pushes back the lever 100 until the roll 101 clears the projection 102 and allows the spring 91 to actuate the lever 85 and thus couple the control mechanism to the driving drum, the resetting having taken place while the advance cloth passed through the treating liquor.
