[Class 60.] Gauges; trueing rotating tools.-In a machine for grinding ball or other bearing rings, the grinding wheel feed is effected from an outwardly biassed pawl 15 which is held in engagement by an electromagnet whose circuit is broken by a switch when the work attains the desired dimensions. The work is mounted in a chuck 3 driven by a belt 24 and the profiled grinding wheel 4 is mounted on a cross slide 6 which is adjustable longitudinally of the work on a slide 7. The work holder may be oscillated about a vertical axis 10 to carry the work across the grinding wheel. The cross traverse is operated from a wheel 13 rotated by a weighted pawl 15 mounted on an arm 17 which is oscillated by a rod 18. The arm also carries an electromagnet 20 which normally holds the pawl in engagement with its wheel. The switch device for controlling the electromagnet consists of an adjustable screw abutment 26 coacting with a ball 33 of the switch member which engages the abutment at the required point in the traverse and separates the contacts 28, 29 to break the circuit of the electromagnet. An electric light or other signal device may be included in the circuit to give a visual indication of the control. In order to set the switch accurately a gauge 39 may be placed in a position corresponding with the surface of a. finished work piece and the switch adjusted so that it is broken at this point. Preferably, the gauge consists of a diamond tool which may be oscillated about an axis 40 to true the grinding wheel and may be swung to an inoperative position about an axis 42 when not required for use. The diamond is swivelled on an eccentric 44 which may be adjusted to vary the arc of movement of the diamond point.
