Honey-extractors. - A machine for separating wax and honey centrifugally has a number of cylindrical screens with horizontal axes about which they rotate at a low speed, while the assemblage as a whole rotates about a vertical axis at a high speed. The machine is particularly for use in separating the honey and wax in comb cappings. The cylindrical tank 1 has a double bottom forming a steam and water chamber 4 provided with an electric heater 10. The rotor consists of foraminous cylinders 16 - - 19 having circular heads, geared together by bevel wheels 24 and carried by a frame-work supported by the central shaft 28. The cylinders may be formed of wire gauze, and they are made with folds that form blades 21, 22. The cylinder 19 carries a worm-wheel 25 which meshes with a worm on the sleeve 26 rigidly fixed inside the tank 1. The shaft 28 is driven by the motor 46 through belt gearing 44 and bevel gearing 40, so that the whole rotor rotates at a high speed. The worm gear 25 also causes each cylinder to rotate slowly on its own horizontal axis, the upper part of each cylinder moving inwards towards the centre of the tank. The sliced capping from the comb slides down the hopper 2 and falls upon the plate 37 which rotates with the rotor, The material is thrown off the plate and is divided by the action of the centrifugal force. The honey passes through the separator screens and is thrown against the wall of the tank 1 where it drops into the trough 7 from which it can be drawn off through the pipe 5. The wax is collected in the folds in the cylinder walls, conveyed towards the centre of the tank and dropped on to the heating chamber where it is melted so that it can be drawn off through the pipe 8.
