Mechanical retaining devices disposed outside etc.; cap stoppers, screw and bayonet-joint. - Bottles or like vessels for holding liquids are closed by a removable stopper comprising a body portion 5 carried by and revolvable in the upper part of an outer metal ring 10 and prevented from movmg vertically therein by means of inwardly turned clips 11, 12, the lower part of the member 10 being provided with inclined hooks or engaging devices 8 adapted to engage with inclined projections 4 on the neck of the vessel. A rubber or other packing ring 6<x> is carried by the stopper or accomodated in an annular recess 3 in the neck of the bottle &c.
