Abstract

338,144. Pipe & Tube Bending Corporation of America, (Assignees of Neuberth, G. E.). Nov. 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Rolling tubes.-Tubes and bars are rolled in a tandem train of segmental oscillating rolls having housings, driving gear, roll adjustments, and mandrel and like supports and feeds as described in Specification 312,352. The roll pass is however constructed so that the several pairs of rolls act in succession at each stroke. The work is fed forward a step while the rolls are in the position shown in the Figure, the pass at a and d affording clearance. The portion ab reduces the work, the portion de permitting the axial movement due to the increase in length. A reducing portion ef comes into operation shortly before the point b is reached, and during this stage the portion be exerts a smoothing action only on the work which continues during further smoothing by the portion fg. Beyond the points c and g clearance exists. In the case of tubes the mandrel may be slightly tapered at the part lying between the roll pairs.
