Pain,ts.-A paint comprises a suspension of finely divided metal in a volatile solvent solution of a resinous condensation product of a polybasic acid, a polyhydric alcohol with or without a dihydric alcohol, a fatty acid derived from a drying or semi-drying oil, a drying oil, and a small percentage of resin. In an example, glycerine. phthalic anhydride, linseed oil fatty acids, wood oil, resin and diethylene glycol are reacted to form a resin which is dissolved in a mixture of butanol, toluol and a high flash naphtha. Metal powder such as aluminium, zinc, copper alloys (bronzes), silver, gold &c. is added. The aluminium or zinc paint may be applied to an iron, copper or other metal base which is alloyable with the suspended metal, and the coated base heated to evaporate the varnish, whereby the suspended metal alloys with and coats the base.
