Abstract

337,259. Myers, L. C., and Royal Typewriter Co., Inc. Dec. 10, 1929. Platen-roller couplings. - The line-spacing wheel is releasably coupled to the platen by means of a toothed clutch-plate mounted on studs on the platen head and held by means of a coiled axial spring in engagement with a toothed clutch-member connected to the linespacing wheel. In the coupling shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the line-spacing wheel F is secured to a cup 5 loosely mounted on the shaft A of the platen C and provided with a ring of fine teeth 6. A triangular plate 8 mounted on studs 7 on the platen head 1 is formed at each corner with a series of teeth 9 for engaging the teeth 6, engagement being maintained by a coiled spring 4 on the shaft. A plunger 15 for releasing the coupling passes through the platen knob E and abuts on a tongue 14 on a plate 10 engaging the plate 8, the tongue being arranged in a groove 13 in the shaft. The plate 10 is formed with slots 18, 19, 20 for engaging the studs, and a lug 11 for engaging an opening 12 in the plate 8, the slot 18 being arranged radially and the slots 19, 20 being curved to facilitate mounting of the plate on the studs.
