Abstract

335,914. Brecknell, Munro, & Rogers (1928), Ltd., and Dolman, H. J. June 27, 1929. Delivery of articles stored in piles; coin action, weight.-In a coin-controlled vending machine in which the insertion of a coin permits of the actuation of anv one of a plurality of delivery mechanisms as chosen by the purchaser, the coin 12, Fig. 1, passed to a pivoted shoot 10 rests on and tilts a lever 13 to close contacts 17, 18 in the leads 20, 21 of a source of electrical energy 19. When a push-button 2, for instance, of a series 1 - - 4 corresponding to article magazines 66 - - 69, is pushed in, it completes, through a contact 42, the circuit of a solenoid 24, the plunger 46 of which closes a pair of contacts 50, thereby energizing a solenoid 58 to actuate a delivery plunger 63 and expel the bottom article from the magazine 67. The plunger 46 is retained by a weighted lever 54 which is released by mechanism actuated by the delivery plunger 63 at the end of its stroke. To prevent more than one push button from being pressed in at a time, they are arranged in staggered relation and have oppositely arranged projections 1<1> - - 3<1>, Fig. 3, to pass between interlocking pivoted members 82 - - 84 When a button is pressed in, its projection acts on. an incline 82" - - 84" to rotate one of the members, the members above it being turned against the action of a spring 91 while the members below it are held against a fixed abutment by the pushbutton. The remaining push-buttons are locked by the flat ends of the rotated members and by the other members being prevented from rotation. Coin-discharging mechanism.-The closing of the contacts 50 also completes a circuit through a solenoid 61 which attracts the pivoted shoot 10 to move the coin off the lever 13 and allow it to drop through a shoot 74 to the money-box, thereby breaking the main circuit. Empty machines, locking; returning coin.--If a magazine becomes empty, a following weight 70 - - 73 falls to the bottom and actuates a corresponding switch 37 - - 40 to cut out a solenoid 23 - - 26 and make the circuit of a solenoid 31 which is energized when the push-button corresponding to the empty magazine is pushed in. The solenoid 31 attracts the shoot 10 so that the coin is moved over a slot 76 in the lever 13 and drops to a return shoot 75.
