Change-speed gearing; clutches, arrangement of; driving steering- wheels.-In a motor vehicle in which the engine is arranged on one side of the driving axle and the clutch and change-speed gear on the other side, the sliding gear members h, h<1> of the gear are mounted upon a tubular shaft i which encloses the crank-shaft c and is provided with a worm k meshing with a worm wheel on the driving axle b. In the construction shown, which may be for a front wheel drive, the V- twin cylinder engine a is mounted forwardly of the axle b and the whole of the mechanism mav be enclosed in a single casing n which may form part of the engine. The constant-mesh gear g is carried by the clutch shaft f and constitutes the initial drive for all speeds.
