335,190. Campbell, J. C. May 13, 1929. Percussive tools.-In a power-operated percussive tool of the kind utilizing a mechanically driven plunger 56 to actuate a striker 35 through an air-chamber connection, the barrel is constructed with a liner 37, which is exchanged, together with the plunger and striker, for a liner of different internal diameter in order to alter the strength of the blow delivered. The plunger is driven by a connecting rod 43 ending in a ball 54 and actuated by a disc crank formed by two discs 40, 46 engaging one another by a pin 45, and bush 41, the latter forming the crank-pin. These parts are replaceable to alter the crank throw. The crank is rotated by a flexible shaft (not shown) engaging the spindle end 39, the opposite spindle 47 being seated in a removable plug 49 carrying a grease chamber 51. A spring 26 between loose collars 25, 27 urges the tool. forward. In order to start the percussive action, the tool must be pressed inwards enough to cause the end of the striker to cover a relief port 22 in the liner, which port when uncovered establishes atmospheric pressure in the air chamber, so that the motion of the striker ceases.
