Electromagnets.-To minimize the magnetizing current and counteract the effects of residual magnetism in electromagnetic devices having a single magnetic circuit wherein the moving element is returned to its normal position by gravity, the fulcrum of the moving element in the first part of the attraction stroke is approximately midway between its ends, and during the remainder of this stroke is at one of its ends. In the form shown, the mounting plate 5 of a signalling device is slotted to accommodate the magnetic element 10, one end of which abuts against a non-magnetic strip 11 which bears a pivot 12 and is attached to the plate 5. The pivot 12 fits in a hole midway along the armature 22, sufficient clearance being provided in the hole to prevent binding when the armature is actuated. As the attraction stroke proceeds, the armature is lifted from the pivot 12 and its unattracted end then forms the pivot at 23, the armature at the end of the attraction stroke occupying the dotted position shown.
